With the H&K 556 Rifle it feels like we have been waiting a long time. German firearm supplier H&K known for their pistols are ready to release evolved civillian versions of the 416/417 carbine series.
The HK MR556 semi auto has caught the sights of many shooting enthusiasts building anticipation for it’s release. Originally H&K claimed they would have this weapon available by the end of 2009. June is almost gone and now rumors are pointing to a July release. That’s not confirmed but one dealer on who currently has the MR556 listed for 2995.00 on GunBroker recently admitted to not having the rifle in hand but would be receiving his delivery next month if you take the leap.
Another online dealer in Georgia says they are no appearing in distributor catalogs and is offering their first shipment at 2500.00. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that we will see these within the next 2 months.
So while your waiting and because GunBlog.com has not gone into H&K MR 556 let’s do so now…
Both weapon systems will take advantage of the proprietary gas piston system. This prevents gases and carbon getting into the rifles interior which in turn keeps it clean and working properly for longer periods of time.
Manufacturing of the new MR556 will be at their new hampshire facility produced with both American and German made parts. You still get lots of the great features the HK416 had like the free floating quad rail system and hand guard and a cold hammer forged produced barrel.
At 2995.00 MSRP it slides right into the same category as the Bushmaster ACR and the FN SCAR. Now the real question is of those 3 which would you take?
